Josephine
County residents, a diverse and largely rural population, often
have difficulty getting medical and dental care. There is a lack
of primary care providers and a lack of coordination between care
providers, creating a fragmented health care delivery system. Limited
transportation, winter weather, and busy schedules make it difficult
to travel to Grants Pass to see a physician or dentist. The demand
for health care services is expanding more quickly than health care
dollars, resulting in many people not receiving the care they need.
We are a collaborative organization of public and private health
care professionals, working together to reduce the barriers to quality
care. We are able to do this by receiving financial and in-kind
support from grants, service organizations, local businesses and
individuals.
In order to help provide medical and dental services for our rural
population, PCN recently remodeled the Wellness On Wheels for expanded
use in the community.
Wellness on Wheels is a 31-foot recreational vehicle, remodeled
in 2005, and outfitted with medical and dental equipment which allows
PCN members to provide a wide variety of services.
It features a private exam room that doubles as a lab, a spacious
clinic area for health screenings, and a section dedicated to dental
care. WOW is staffed by local health and dental professionals to
bring preventative care, education, and screenings out into the
county.
The WOW services do not replace personal physicians or dentists,
nor does WOW provide urgent or primary care. However, we do
provide immunizations, flu shots, dental screening, nutrition counseling,
personal health and senior wellness classes, dental preventative
service for children, alcohol and drug screening, and health education
and prevention.
Our goal is to have WOW on the road every day of the year, bringing
health and dental care to every corner of Josephine County. Your
group, school or organization can sponsor a WOW visit. Contact PCN
with any questions regarding services provided by WOW or to request
the details of a WOW visit to your community.
You can also make a reservation by filling in the form on the right,
or check when WOW will be in your community!
